This is my second attempt at a tanka. I'm still not completely comfortable in the style. I noticed after the fact that it combines two things found in Laurence's [link] tanka - storms and dogs. It's actually a coincidence I think. It just happens to be storming here right now and my poor dog is going bonkers. :)

As always I'd really love to hear from the haiku and tanka community how this attempt works in terms of the style.

And sometimes there's a third, even deeper level, and that one is the same as the top surface one. Like with pie.

I really like the use of "thunder barks" to show the way the storm has taken on an animal persona and frightened the animal. I hope you do more of these :)

I'll definitely do more short form poems, I just don't know if they will be tanka, haiku, or some other form.

there is something vivid and poignant about this.

I'm glad that you felt that. I think that this thought could also be extended to people too. Everyone, no matter how strong, has a point at which their bravery collapses.

I like the contrast between the storm and the dogs, the first personifying the actions of the second but ironically surpassing them. :D I know next to nothing about tankas, but judging from the conversations you've had with Laurence about them, this seems to function very well as one. :)

I'm hoping that this one is closer. I'm trying really hard, which should count for something at least.
